Beacon of hope has its genesis in the desire of one woman, Jane Wathome, to move out of her comfort zone and to share the love of Christ in a practical way. The desire to serve amongst the less fortunate women began in 1996 while Jane was serving as an intern with Nairobi Chapel. BEACON ACADEMY
Initially this program started as a daycare for 15 children whose parents were in our vocational training program in the year 2002/2003. By the end of the 2004 there was need to expand the classes. Due to the increased number of children they were categorized into 2 -3 years,3 to 4 years. and 5 to 6 years. In addition there was need to provide these children with basic necessity such as food, education and health. Read More..
VOCATIONAL TRAINING
Vocational training is provided in carpet and kikoy weaving, spinning, tailoring & dressmaking, Screen printing, card making, beadwork & Jewelery as well as basketry. Many of the women have never earned a regular income, thus after the training at BOH they get some income by selling the products. Three huge workshops known as House of Bezalel have been built to accommodate at least 300 women and some men in training and production each day. Read More..
